THE BRIEF

Welcome to the Eyrie

The Woodville-West Torrens Eagles play in the SANFL, and their home ground is known as the Eyrie. The club wanted a bold welcome for players and fans on the wall of the Barry Jarman Grandstand: the club logo, stripes and “Welcome to the Eyrie”, across roughly 20 metres by 4 metres of brick.

The challenge was precision. Painting a logo on brick means working around natural dips, uneven faces and mortar grooves that can easily make curves and straight lines look crooked. And because this logo is the first thing fans see when they arrive, it had to be exact.

Over three days, everything was painted by hand straight onto the brick, so the signage feels part of the stadium rather than stuck on top of it.

THE PROCESS

How We Painted the Eagle

Three days of careful measuring, masking and hand-painting to keep every curve of the eagle true on a textured brick wall.

1. Blocking in colour

After scaling the logo and lettering to the wall, Carolina blocked in the eagle’s wings in the club’s green and gold, working the paint into every brick.

2. Crisp edges by hand

Every stripe and wing edge was cut in by brush for clean, sharp lines that hold up up close and from a distance.

3. The stairwell logo

We carried the eagle onto the stairwell wall leading up to the grandstand, so the branding follows fans all the way to their seats.

The Best Review: They Called Us Back

The club was so happy with the Eyrie that a few months later they asked us to paint their logo again, this time for Craig Arthur Transport, one of the club’s main sponsors. It was an even bigger challenge: corrugated metal cladding, painted at height, where every ridge can bend a curve or break a straight line.
